Talleyville drives differently from the city. Houses here have driveways and often garages, the cars are newer on average, and a lot of them are the sort of crossover that comes with a camera behind the mirror doing lane keeping and automatic braking. The daily pattern is a short hop onto Concord Pike, a mile or two of fifty-mile-an-hour dual carriageway with trucks on it, a right turn into a shopping center, and a large parking lot at the end. Repeat five times a week.
That pattern decides the work. Windshield chips picked up on the Pike are the leading complaint, and because these cars are garaged rather than left out under trees, the chip is usually the only damage there is. The second complaint is the parking lot: a car door swung by the vehicle alongside, a stray cart, a pole found while reversing out of a tight bay. Both are ordinary jobs at ordinary money, $60 to $130 for a chip and $200 to $500 for a side or quarter pane, and the one thing worth flagging in advance is the camera. Concord Pike is a wide, fast, commercial road that behaves like a highway between the lights and like a parking lot at the lights, with shopping center entrances opening straight off it. Silverside Road crosses it and is the main east-west link toward Shipley Road, Marsh Road and the Foulk Road side. Naamans Road sits further north and carries the traffic across toward the Pennsylvania line. The residential streets off all of these are quiet, curving, well-planted and generally wide enough for two cars to pass, which is a genuine difference from the city. The pinch points are not the streets, they are the junctions: turning left across four lanes of Concord Pike is the thing local drivers plan their day around.
First, Concord Pike at speed. Fifty miles an hour, a constant freight of delivery and construction traffic heading between Wilmington and the Pennsylvania line, and a road surface that gathers grit at the lane edges; a stone off a tire at that speed is a chip you hear as a tick and find two days later. Second, parking lots. The big lots along the Pike are where doors, carts and poles meet side glass and mirrors, at low speed and high frequency. Third, winter treatment. This corridor gets salted and brined early and often, and brine works its way into an unfilled chip and stops it filling cleanly later. Fourth, the driveway reverse into a curving residential street with a hedge on the corner.
Concord Pike south toward the city is the direct run. Follow it down past the city line and, where it drops toward the Brandywine, take Concord Avenue east until you meet Market Street, then turn north and stay on Market to 3520, past 30th Street. From the Silverside Road and Shipley Road side, the alternative is Marsh Road south to Governor Printz Boulevard, then southwest and west onto Market, which avoids the Pike entirely and is usually faster at rush hour. Twelve to fifteen minutes either way. If your car should not be driven, the van comes to the driveway.

Quarter glass on a crossover or wagon is usually a bonded pane rather than one that slides, so it is closer to windshield work than door work: the old glass and its adhesive come out, the aperture is cleaned back and primed, and the new pane is set in fresh urethane. It sits in the $200 to $500 band, and like a windshield it needs cure time before the car is driven hard or washed.
