First, Kirkwood Highway. It is the busiest road most Elsmere drivers touch daily, it carries constant commercial traffic, and the surface between the lights is worn and patched; that is where the chips come from. Second, the level crossings. Rail crossings deliver a sharp vertical shock through the front of the car, and repeated shocks are what turn a stable chip into a crack running for the A-pillar. Third, the alleys and narrow entries, where mirrors, quarter glass and door glass meet gateposts, fences and the car coming the other way. The alternative at busy times is I-95 north from the Route 141 interchange, off at the Wilmington exits and across to Market. About fifteen minutes on a normal run.
